Of course I have been asked by everyone I have seen today that knew I had just wrapped up a month long tour of Italy, France, Croatia, Montenegro and Greece... "How was your trip?"
Incredible, is about the only word I can think of that even begins to convey just how awesome the experience was to me. Primarily since I have had a fondness for cameras and photography since I was 11 years old, it made this trip so very rewarding. I captured close to 4000 images and during the course of the adventure I posted about 250 of them on www.thephotographyexperience.com web site.
With one more stop at sea and one overnight on land left to go on my grand European Adventure, it is only fitting that the climax of this trip just happens to be on my "bucket list". For quite some time now, I had placed Santorini Greece near the top of my so called bucket list. You can rest assured that I will be on that first tender to go ashore in the morning upon our arrival.
Of all the many aspects of my current Mediterranean life, the one that is the most obvious to me is not about the Europeans, but about how big of a glutton that America is. I did notice it in the French West Indies, but it is really obvious once seeing the countries of Italy and France.
In America it is all about a status symbol for many of us, and just how much we can waste. As we drive around in big giant Hummers and Suv's not really concerned about the resources we used to create them or the ones to keep them running. And what is the attraction to the "all you can eat buffet". No wonder there is a huge percentage of Americans over the desired weight (me included).
From May 19th through June 17th, I shall be on an adventure of a lifetime cruising the Mediterranean.
The most common phrase I hear daily now from people is "are you packed yet?".... Remember I am a guy... we don't pack ahead of time, but I possibly will at least pack maybe 1 day before I leave. Mostly because the clothes I will take with me, I still have to wear before I go, but it would be nice to have enough wardrobe to pack a months long adventure weeks ahead of time.
Actually my biggest concern was finding care for my four kitties while I am away.
